Local School Board Member Elected to National Black Caucus Group

Elizabeth Campbell has served the Valley View Board of Education for 15 years.

Elizabeth “Liz” Campbell, a member of the Board of Education since 1997, has been elected to serve as Central region director for The National School Boards Association’s (NSBA) National Black Caucus of School Board Members (NBC).

Campbell joins fellow directors Martin A. Wilson Sr. of Delaware’s Red Clay Consolidated School District, northeast region; and Terry Martin of New Mexico’s Clovis Municipal School District, western region.

“We are extremely excited about the National Black Caucus of School Board Members leadership team,” wrote Kanisha Williams-Jones, NSBA’s Director of Leadership Services and Caucus Liaison, in a press release from the organization.

“The regional directors will be key in helping to grow the NBC membership, foster state-level relations within their state associations and regional contacts, in collecting stories that showcase best practices and leadership that impact achievement, and in helping NSBA with its commitment to equity and excellence in public education though school board leadership,” Williams-Jones continued.

NBC became a NSBA Council in 2007 and serves as a national membership organization dedicated to meeting and addressing the educational needs of African American students.The organization is committed to enhancing both the students’ educational experiences and academic accomplishments.

Caucus members represent many of the largest and most populated urban school districts, together with some of the most expansive and rural school districts in the nation. Members address the concerns, unique challenges, and opportunities faced by school board members working with these issues throughout the country.
