Laverty Named Humphrey Principal

Two other administrators named to assistant principal posts Monday.

Assistant Principal Dan Laverty became the new principal at in Bolingbrook Monday following a unanimous vote by the board of education.

Laverty served as BHS’ assistant principal for student services for four years under then-principal James Mitchem, who is the new Valley View superintendent of schools. Laverty’s roles at BHS included overseeing the dean’s office, building operations and maintenance, attendance and security.

He has been with Valley View School District 365U for 15 years, starting his career as a language arts teacher at what was then B.J. Ward Middle School in 1996. He became a dean at BHS in 2002 and was named head dean in 2004.

A former sergeant in the United States Army and the Illinois National Guard, he holds a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Western Illinois University and two master's degrees from Northern Illinois University, one in curriculum and instruction and one in educational administration.

“I’m excited to move back into the middle school realm,” Laverty told the board Monday. “I really enjoyed that when I was teaching.”

Laverty assumes new duties immediately.

New assistant principals for Martinez, R.C. Hill

The board approved two other administrative hires Monday night.

Robert Halverson, a kindergarten teacher at Jonas Salk and Independence elementary schools, will become the Assistant Principal at . A former physical education teacher at B.J. Ward Elementary School, he has been teaching for eight years, including five years in the Aurora School District 131 system.

Halverson is a graduate of Judson College with a bachelor's degree in sports management. He holds master's degrees in elementary education and educational administration from Aurora University. His fills the role vacated by Alyson Ewald, who became principal this month following the retirement of longtime R.C. Hill leader Paula Bowling.

Plainfield North High School Dean Marina Kosak is the new assistant principal at . Kosak became dean five years ago after teaching Spanish at Hinsdale Central High School for 10 years.

She holds a bachelor's degree in political science and Spanish and a master's in Latin American studies from Purdue University, plus a master's degree in teaching leadership from Roosevelt University. Kosak takes the position vacated when Assistant Principal Sarah DeDonato became principal earlier this month.
