A week after the early departure of Principal Michael White, Bolingbrook High School has a new leader.

Former BHS dean of students Yolanda Jordan has been named interim principal through the end of the school year. Jordan has been assistant principal at Romeoville High School for nearly four years, and came to VVSD as a dean.

According to the district, Jordan helped create and sponsor school initiatives including RIGHT (Really Intelligent Girls Hanging Together), Mr. RIGHT, Guide Right and Multicultural Club.

Jordan lives in Bolingbrook and holds a bachelor's degree in biology and a master's degree in education from Chicago State University. She is working toward her doctorate in administrative leadership-teaching and learning from Walden University.

Prior to joining VVSD, she worked as a science teacher at Homewood-Flossmoor High School, Lincoln Park High School and The Harvard School in Chicago, and she coordinated the science outreach programs at Chicago State for more than six years.

Jordan began acting as interim principal on Tuesday. Superintendent James Mitchem also said he set up a satellite office and the campus "and will work from the building until such time the interim principal has acclimated herself to the new setting."

Valley View is currently accepting applications to permanently fill the BHS principal position.
