Homeland Security Rep to Speak About Cyber Safety at Lewis University

Event is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 8.

Representatives from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and Lewis University's Institute for Information Assurance, as well as leadership, faculty and students from , will host a cyber security forum from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 8, in the Lewis University Dining Room.

As part of the “Stop.Think.Connect.” public education campaign, the Cyber Citizen Forum is bringing experts together to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing the nation. The forum will also include discussions how individuals and communities can better protect themselves from cyber attacks by elevating awareness and encouraging the public to take increased measures.

Timothy Fraser, director of the National Cyber Security Awareness Campaign by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, is the featured speaker. A panel discussion on “How businesses and individuals can protect themselves online” will follow Fraser’s presentation.

Panel members include Faisal Abdullah, associate professor of Management Information Systems, Rami Khasawneh, dean and professor of the College of Business, and members of the board of directors for the Chicago InfraGard Chapter: Robert (Bob) Kowalski, director of security at the Career Education Corporation, and Paul Sand, senior vice president at IP3.

"The Cyber Citizen Forum is a great opportunity for Lewis University to support President Obama's ‘Stop. Think. Connect.’ cyber security initiative. We hope to educate our students and community members on safe online behavior," said Abdullah.
