Lewis History Center Hosts Archival Workshops

’s History Center will host two archival workshops on April 14 at the Historic Fitzpatrick House located at 15701 Independence Blvd (Route 53) in Romeoville. “The Robert E. Sterling Collection” will be held at 11 a.m. and will be presented by Dr. Robert E. Sterling. He will discuss his lifelong passion for Joliet area history and the collection he donated to Lewis University. Sterling is a former history professor at Joliet Junior College and a visiting professor at Lewis University. An author of several books, he has spent many years collecting information about Joliet’s local history, artifacts, pamphlets, newspaper articles, books, photos and many others.

“All about the Archives” will be held at 1:30 p.m. Katie Dishman will present an overview of the archival profession including the different types of archives and their importance. She will also share how to care for materials in one’s home for preservation and long-term access. Dishman has been in the archival profession for two decades. She is currently an archives technician at the National Archives and Records Administration. A certified archivist, she previously served as an archivist and research librarian at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, corporate archivist for General Mills and research archivist for Anheuser-Busch.
