Aviation Summer Camp for High School Students is June 18-22 at Lewis University

Participants will experience flight, tour O'Hare airport and learn about the industry

Current high school students can sign up now for a summer aviation camp that will take place June 18-22 on at 1 University Parkway in Romeoville.

Camp participants will have the opportunity to fly in Cessna 172s each day, take a behind-the-scenes tour of O’Hare Airport, participate in various aviation classes, use flight simulators and learn about the aviation industry from current professionals in aviation.

Aviation history, meteorology and flight theory will be some of the topics discussed by Lewis aviation professors.

Participants will also have access to the Lewis fleet of 25 airplanes, as well as experiencing air travel with a flight instructor. A tour of O’Hare International Airport will offer participants a behind-the-scenes perspective of one of the nation’s busiest airports.

The cost to attend is $1,290 for the week, which includes room and board.

Since 1932, Lewis University has been instructing young people on aviation and has alumni serving in aviation around the globe.

The university had one of the first programs in the nation to offer practice in flight simulators and is the only Illinois university designated as an FAA Air Traffic Collegiate Training Initiative (CTI) program. The program, launched in fall 2008, classifies Lewis University as a partner and gives hiring preferences to its graduates.

Lewis University offers undergraduate degrees in Aviation Administration, Aviation Maintenance Management, Air Traffic Control Management, Aviation Security, Transportation Administration and Aviation Flight Management.
