Ground was broken Wednesday on the new 136,000-square-foot Sam's Club in Romeoville, being built on Weber Road next to the existing Walmart store.
The 460 S. Weber Road store could be open as soon as June, Mayor John Noak told those gathered on the site for the symbolic start construction, according to a story published online by WJOL-AM. That's about six months earlier than had been initially projected.
“Our approach in Romeoville is paying off in spades now,” Noak said, as quoted in the story. “Our approach to re-gear, re-market our community is starting to show the positives of our message. This will make Romeoville one of a small hand full of communities in Illinois that has seen ground-up, big box construction since the recession began.”
