VVSD Board Approves Student Fees for Next Two Years
The biggest changes include fees for the new all-day kindergarten program and the combination of graduation, registration fees for middle school and high school.
After signing off on all-day kindergarten, the new middle school Odyssey intervention program and the reduction in force of first- through fourth-year teachers and support staff, the Valley View School District Board of Education had one more matter to tend to in preparing for the upcoming school year.
The board voted to approve school fees for the 2012-13 and 2013-14 school years, including fees for the brand-new all-day kindergarten program, which was also given the OK on Monday.
The new fees combine registration, graduation, band/P.E. locks and co-curricular non-athletic activities fees for middle schoolers and bundle graduation and P.E./band lock fees into the high school registration fee.

A 20 percent late charge for parents who fail to register their students the deadline will remain in place, Assistant Superintendent for Administrative Service Gary Grizaffi said.

For early childhood students, the registration fee will jump $10 next year and another $5 for the 2013-14 school year.

Half-day kindergarten book fees are slated to drop by $5 for 2012-13, but registration fees will increase by $65. The fees are scheduled to remain flat for 2013-14.

Elementary
Elementary school registration fees will increase by $20 next year, then by another $10 for 2013-14.

For middle schoolers, the combined registration fee — including graduation fees, P.E./band lock fees and non-athletic participation fees — represents a $5 decrease for 2013-15. The fees will rise by $15 the following year, however.
Fees for sports will increase from the current rate of $20 to $40 per sport for 2012-13, with a maximum fee of $100 charged per student. That fee is scheduled to increase by another $10 for 2013-14, while the maximum will increase to $125 per student.
High school
Book fees are slated to remain steady for high school students through 2014, but the new schedule increases the combined registration/student ID/graduate fee/class fee by $10 for 2012-13. It will rise another $30 by 2013-14.
Driver’s education fees will also increase by $50 for next school year, while student parking permits will cost an additional $15. With the board signing off on program cuts for driver's education, the fee for 2013-14 is yet to be determined.
Non-athletic participation fees will cost $10 more in 2012-13, rising by another $10 for 2013-14.
For athletes, students fees are set at $100 per sport, a $40 increase for next school year. The maximum athletic participation fee per student is set at $250 for 2012-13 and $300 for 2013-14.
