Village Offers Warming Centers as Severe Weather Hits

Shelter available at all three fire stations and the Romeoville Recreation Center.

With possible snow accumulation of up to eight inches and colder temperatures arriving, the reminds residents that warming stations are available at all Romeoville fire stations — located at 18 Montrose Dr., 1321 Enterprise Dr. and 698 N. Birch Ln. — as well as the Romeoville Recreation Center, 900 W. Romeo Rd. 

Residents in need of a warming station are asked to first contact the at 815-886-7219 before proceeding to the warming station. 

As public works crews continue to clear the streets, the village also reminds residents of the odd-even parking restrictions in effect.

When there are two or more inches of snowfall, "odd-even" street parking goes into effect so that streets may be plowed. Odd-even street parking requires residents to park in front of even numbered addresses starting at 6 p.m. on the odd-numbered calendar day until 6 p.m. of the even-numbered calendar day. Parking restrictions remain in effect until streets are cleared. All normal parking signs and regulations remain in effect.

Hazards

In addition to the falling snow, winds will increase to 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph by afternoon, resulting in blowing and drifting snow especially in outlying and open areas. Wind chills are also forecasted to drop to zero to 10 below by Friday morning.

Impacts

Accumulating snow and reduced visibilities will likely make travel difficult for the afternoon commute today. Travel conditions will become treacherous and even dangerous in open areas tonight into early Friday morning.

A winter weather advisory for snow and blowing snow means that visibilities will be limited due to a combination of falling and blowing snow. Use caution when traveling, especially in open areas.
