Village Awarded Grant to Purchase Rescue Boat

The Romeoville Fire Department will operate the vessel, to be funded with a $165,000 grant.

A $165,000 Federal Port Security Grant will allow the village to purchase a 27-foot fire, rescue and patrol boat.

The vessel will be operated by the will be used by first responders on the Sanitary and Ship Canal to “properly manage security, enhance marine domain awareness and port resilience,” the village said in a release issued Wednesday.

“The new boat will be a great resource for our emergency response personnel,” Mayor John Noak said. “This will make search and research operations much safer.

According to the release, the boat will also be used in handling hazardous materials mitigation, firefighting and other law-enforcement functions, and will be operated in conjunction with the U.S. Coast Guard.
