UPDATE: Ruby Street Bridge Reopened to Traffic Monday

Although Joliet sent out a note last week saying the bridge would not reopen till Wednesday, it was discovered today it was already in use.

UPDATE/12:30 p.m. Feb. 18:

Despite the news release saying the bridge would reopen to traffic on Wednesday, it's actually open now and we have the photo to prove it!

Posted Friday night:

After several delays pushed the date back three months, the Ruby Street Bridge over the Des Plaines River is to reopen to traffic Wednesday, Joliet city officials said Friday.

The Illinois Department of Transportation began doing repairs last summer with a planned reopening in mid-November, but problems with parts and other issues resulted in the date being pushed back three times.

For more information, call the Joliet Public Works Department at 815-724-4200.

The Patch has been a little boring lately. Opening up the Ruby St bridge will likely increase West side crime, making reading here more exciting.

Unions were established to ensure a proper living wage and safe working conditions; not to guarantee the highest wages and great "bennys" for its members. Now they are veiled political action committees that extort the government for the biggest contracts. They do more harm to the general public than they're worth.
