Romeoville Hydrant Flushing Starts April 1

The mineralized water is not harmful to drink, but could cause laundry stains.

Submitted by the Village of Romeoville:

The Village of Romeoville will be flushing its fire hydrants starting on Tuesday, April 1, weather permitting. The flushing will be done Monday through Friday. Scheduled flushing will be done between the hours of 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and will take eight weeks to complete, ending on Friday, May 30.

Flushing will begin on the west side of Weber Road starting Tuesday, April 15 and ending Wednesday, April 30.

Starting Tuesday, April 15, flushing will be done on the east side of Weber Road and will end Friday, May 30, 2014.

The village will have signs posted on the day near the area that is being flushed.

The purpose of flushing is to remove sediment and mineral deposits that settle on the bottom of water mains and to verify proper operation of hydrants.  Discolored water can be drawn into homes or businesses if water is used during or immediately after area water mains are flushed. The discolored water results from naturally occurring minerals that will be dislodged during flushing. This mineralized water is not harmful to drink, but could cause laundry stains.

If you have any questions or concerns about the water main flushing, please call the Romeoville Water Department at (815) 886-1870.
