Romeoville Budget Includes Events Center, New Fire Station

The budget takes effect May 1.

Romeoville village trustees last week signed off on a $114.5 million budget for fiscal year 2013-14, an increase over last year's $91.4 million budget. The overall property tax levy is the same as last year.

"This year's total budget reflects a commitment to redeveloping the Downtown by utilizing TIF funds to construct the Downtown Athletic and Event Center, as well as  related infrastructure and streetscape improvements in the Downtown area," the village said in a press release.

According to officials, the new budget will mean a $2 decrease for most residents on next year's tax bill, along with another $20 water bill rebate come October.

Mayor John Noak said the budget provides necessary services and new facilities for village residents, while decreasing the tax burden on the residents.

Some highlights of the 2013-14 budget:

  • Downtown Projects: Construction of the Athletic and Event 
      Center, Road and Streetscape Improvements and Stormwater  
      improvements.  
  •   Fire Station #1 Rehabilitation or Construction of a 
      new station #1.   
  •  Taylor Road Resurfacing Projects from Rt. 53 to I-55 
     (80% grant)
  •  Traffic signal at Route 53 at RHS and Material Service 
     (80% grant)
  •  Village Hall Parking Lot Expansion
  •  Tree Replacement Program
  •  Metra Station Engineering

The new budget officially begins May 1.
