Romeoville Board Votes to Expand Public Comment Time Limit

Changes made at special board meeting.

Residents will have more time to speak at Village of Romeoville meetings, but anyone who wishes to speak will have to sign in with their name and address, and indicate the topic they intend to address.

Trustees voted on the changes, including increasing the public comment time limit from three to five minutes, during a special meeting Monday afternoon, according to the Chicago Tribune.

The rules also note that the village president can take action to maintain order and civility at public meetings, including ejecting belligerent speakers.

"Discourtesy or disorderly conduct shall be deemed a breach of order, and such misconduct shall be dealt with as appropriate, including but not limited to expulsion from the meeting," the amended ordinance states.

According to village documents, sign-up cards or sheets will be available at the front door of the Village Board Room during meetings.

The next village board meeting is set for 6 p.m. Wednesday at Village Hall, 1050 W. Romeo Rd. See the agenda here.
