Plans for New Sam's Club Store Advancing

Romeoville Mayor John Noak said he hopes to have all of the details for the warehouse store wrapped up soon so that construction might begin later this year.

Plans are moving forward to build a 138,445-square-foot Sam’s Club warehouse store and gas station in Romeoville’s Weber Road commercial corridor.

The village board this week approved the site layout, building design and parking plan for the store, which will be located on more than 13 acres of vacant land on Weber Road in the Romeoville Crossings commercial area just south of the existing Walmart.

The village has been in discussions with Sam’s Club for about two years, and plans are moving quickly forward.

Site work is likely to begin later this fall and the store may be open next year, Romeoville Mayor John Noak said.

Final details, including any village incentives offered to the store, are likely to be completed this month, he said.

“We’re getting very close to the point where everything is finalized,” he said.

The Sam’s Club itself is expected to generate about 200 new jobs, and construction of the store and gas station is also expected to generate hundreds of labor jobs as well.

“Our community has a large labor pool of union trade workers that will benefit,” from the construction of Sam’s Club, Noak said.

The warehouse store will bring more sales tax and property tax dollars for the village and other taxing bodies and will drive future economic development, Noak said.

“We anticipate this to be a regional draw,” he said. “Sam’s Club is a destination. Part of our goal is to draw from a larger regional area, which will benefit our other retailers and restaurants and also attract new restaurants and businesses.”
