Manley Voices Support for Bill to Restructure Plainfield Park District

The legislation has yet to go before the full House for a vote.

State Rep. Natalie Manley, D-Joliet, in late March became a co-sponsor of legislation that could increase the Plainfield Park District board of commissioners from five to seven members.

She joins State Rep. Tom Cross, R-Oswego, in pushing for the legislation, which Cross has called an "attempt to bring sanity back" to the park district amid allegations of nepotism, unethical purchases and, most recently, controversial dealings with youth sports leagues.

Under the proposal, state legislators to appoint two new members to the board for a two-year term. After those two years, the positions would be up for election.

"After discussing this proposal with local residents, and Plainfield Township officials, I learned that they strongly support this initiative to improve the way business is done," Manley said in a press release. "The goal is to restore confidence, attract better leadership and representation, to ensure our parks can operate efficiently and
effectively - allowing taxpayers to have more of a say in the process."

The legislation passed out of committee with a 15-1 vote on March 25.
