Forest Preserve Land Annexed by Village Board

The move will allow Romeoville the ability to extend its boundaries beyond the Will County Forest Preserve District land.

The Romeoville Village Board voted to annex over 236 acres of Forest Preserve District of Will County property into the village. The property which was annexed includes the Veterans Woods on Route 53 and parts of the Romeoville Prairie Forest Preserve located north of 135th.  

Much of the Romeoville Prairie Preserve, including the , are already in the village. This would annex the remaining parcels and zone them P-1, Public/Private Land Conservation District. The land would remain in its natural state with limited development by the district likely including only trails and recreational amenities.

"This allows the village to extend its boundaries and gain additional natural areas within the community. We look forward to this continued partnership with the Forest Preserve District," said Mayor John Noak.

Annexing the property into the Village will allow the Village to partner with the Forest Preserve District on future grant opportunities as well as future projects.
