“They’re under no obligation whatsoever,” Collins said, noting that the goal of the electric aggregation program is to save residents money.

Customers who want to participate in the program — and the savings that come with it — do not have to take any action. Customers who want to opt out will have 21 days from the postmarked date on the notice to do so.

Under the deal secured by the Will Electric Aggregation Group, member communities are entered into a two-year contract with FirstEnergy Solutions at a rate of 4.83 cents per kilowatt hour.

According to the release issued by the Will County Electric Aggregation Group, there are no early termination fees associated with the program.

In March, voters in Plainfield gave the village the go-ahead for electric aggregation, which is the practice of “bundling” electrical loads of communities to seek a better price.
