Blizzard of '11 Aftermath: Village Prepares for Future Storms

Trustees OK new public works equipment.

The on Romeoville has prompted the village to spend $29,000 to buy a dual-purpose John Deere snow blower/mower deck.

Public Works Director Dan Bromberek said the purchase is the result of the staff asking “What more can be done?” to make local roads safe after an event like the February blizzard. The funding will come from money already set aside in this year’s budget, Bromberek added.

Trustees also OK’d the purchase of a $43,754 portable belt conveyor as part of plans to expand the village’s wastewater treatment plant.

The conveyor can be used for sludge processing, as well as for conveying road salt in the winter, according to Bromberek.

“We can use it for multi-purpose,” he said.

The public works department also got the OK to buy a $152,000 wheel loader from McCann Industries. By using the state bid contract, rather than soliciting bids itself, the village will save on the purchase, according to Bromberek.

Originally, the village had budgeted $200,000 to buy a new wheel loader, he said.
