Woman Killed in Route 53 Car Crash in Romeoville

A 48-year-old Crest Hill woman died Friday from injuries suffered in a Thursday night car crash at Route 53 and Renwick Road.

A 48-year-old woman from Crest Hill died Thursday following a car crash near Route 53 and Renwick Road in south Romeoville. 

The crash involved three cars and a semi-trailer on northbound Route 53, just south of Renwick Road, according to the Illinois State Police. It was reported around 4:50 p.m. 

The victim was identified as Judy A. Shilka. She was pronounced dead at about 3:15 a.m. Friday at Presence St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet, according to the Will County Coroner's Office.

The semi, a Ford Explorer and a Buick Century were stopped in traffic on Route 53, reports said. The semi was in the right lane. The other two cars were in the right turning lane. 

For unknown reasons, Shilka, who was driving a Kia Sorento, failed to stop and struck the back of the semi-trailer, reports said. The Sorento then slid sideways, striking the Ford Explorer. The impact from the Kia Sorento pushed the Ford Explorer into the rear of the Buick Century.

Shilka was transported to Presence. Everyone else involved in the crash refused medical treatment.

This crash is under investigation by the Illinois State Police.
