8 of the Weirdest Crime Stories of the Southwest Suburbs

Stealing a car to get out of the cold, a drunk prom limo driver and a backstabbing brawl over barbecue featured in a look back at weird police reports from 2013.

This past year had a little bit of the odd, the weird and the criminally stupid. As Patch looks back at 2013, we pause and peek at the craziness recounted in local police reports and published on sites across the southwest suburban region.

Drunk Limo Driver Takes Students to Prom: There are always the worries of students driving drunk after prom. But no one would have suspected the limo driver.

The Most Mellow Mugshot: Say 'cheese'! A Plainfield woman took the most mellow-looking mugshot earlier this year when she was arrested on the manufacture/delivery of cannabis.

Group Busted for Celebrating Bears Victory with Gunfire: Most of us are all for celebrating when our team wins. But some Joliet residents discovered shooting a 9mm handgun into a berm isn't the best way to show your enthusiasm.

He
Hit the Broad Side of a Bar: A 21-year-old Bolingbrook man intentionally backed his vehicle into a downtown Joliet bar—and was trying to ram into the building again—when he finally was stopped and arrested following a drinking binge, according to police reports.

Family Cookout Turns Into Backstabbing Brawl: Did you want that last rib? Too bad, and now I'm going to literally stab you in the back for it - or something like that. Two brothers and their dad were all arrested after one brother stabbed another and then the dad tried to drive away drunk. And you thought your family dinners could be a little crazy.

Oswego Man Steals Bronze Flower Vases from Cemetery: There's grave robbing in movies and then there's this. An Oswego man was arrested for the vandalization of a cemetery, stealing over 500 bronze vases used to hold flowers and plenty of other charges.

Another Day at the Office:
He went to work expecting an ordinary day. He returned home a hero. A Lewis University freshman—Nickolas Killan—assisted in rescuing a woman who tried to hang herself in a department store bathroom. The woman subsequently attacked an officer, underwent a psychiatric evaluation at a local hospital and later was booked into the Will County jail, according to police reports.

Teen Steals Car to Get Out of the Cold: There's nothing better than getting inside a nice, warm car after traversing the parking lot in the cold. A Joliet teen thought that too, except he got into a car that wasn't his and then stole it.
