A fight between two teens at a house party Saturday night ended when one pulled out a knife and stabbed the other, Joliet Police Cmdr. Brian Benton said.
The victim, 18, was initially in critical condition but underwent surgery, where he was stablized and is expected to survive, Benton said.
The incident occurred at about 9:45 p.m. in the 3200 block of Wexford Lane, near Essington and Caton Farm roads in Joliet.
The two teens have had issues in the past, Benton said. They began arguing at the party and went outside to fight, during the course of which the 15-year-old suspect produced a knife and stabbed the victim in the torso, he said.
The victim was taken to Presence St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet and the suspect taken into police custody. He's been charged with aggravated battery and is being held in the River Valley Juvenile Detention Center in Joliet.
There was no information available on what provoked the fight, Benton said, and no one was believed to have been drinking at the party. The knife used in the attack was recovered.
