Teen Charged in String of Burglaries

Police say 15-year-old admits to cutting screens, stealing cash.

A 15-year-old boy is charged in connection with a rash of residential burglaries after being taken into custody on a curfew violation, police said.

In a news release, Assistant Chief Steven Lucchesi said the teen was spotted riding a bicycle at around 3:21 a.m. Wednesday in an area where a number of recent burglaries have taken place. After being taken into custody, the teen was found to be in possession of a pair of garden-style gloves and a pair of scissors, according to the release.

The arresting officer also observed that the front window of a nearby home was open and that the screen had been cut, police said. According to the release, the teen subsequently admitted to cutting screens on four other homes over the past six nights, and entering three of the houses to steal cash.

The juvenile was transported to River Valley Juvenile Detention facility and charged with three counts of residential burglary and two counts of attempted residential burglary, police said.

One of the houses was mine! I woke Monday morning to find my purse dumped over onto my coffee table, my cash and my iphone were missing. My screen was cut, he climbed in the window and exited the patio door. Two things about this are VERY disturbing to me.. 1. WHERE are his parents when he is breaking into houses at 3 am?? Hes FIFTEEN for Gods sake! and 2. the fact that he made himself so comfortable in my home, sitting on the couch sifting through my purse deciding what he wanted to take is just mind boggling. I have never felt unsafe here, but this area is changing.. LOCK UP TIGHT PEOPLE! Be safe, and watch out for one another!

Tammy, That's got to be very unsettling, to say the least. Thank you for sharing your story.
