A 15-year-old girl has died following a Thursday morning shooting in Romeoville, according to the Chicago Sun-Times, and the ex-boyfriend accused in the crime is being held on $5 million bond.

The girl, identified as Briana Valle, reportedly died Saturday afternoon at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood.

The teenager, a Romeoville High School student, was shot twice in the head early Thursday as she and her mother sat in a car in their driveway in the 300 block of Emery Avenue, police said. The girl's mother, 33, was shot once in the neck, according to police.

On Friday, Romeoville Chief Mark Turvey said the girl's mother was in good condition at Loyola University Medical Center. Both victims were initially taken to Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital, but later transported to Loyola, according to police.

Accused gunman Erick Maya, 23, of Cicero, remains at the Will County jail on $5 million bond. Maya is charged with two counts of attempted murder, two counts of aggravated battery with a firearm and one count of unlawful use of a weapon by a felon.

Turvey said Maya had previously dated the teen. Will County court records show that an emergency order of protection was taken out against Maya in December 2013.

Turvey said the order is related to the shooting case, but declined to release details or say whether police had responded to previous domestic violence reports involving Maya.

Maya is due back in court Tuesday, according to Will County records.

A GoFundMe account has been set up for the family of the teen and her mother.

Heard on news radio last night that they met on FB and the mom has been battling to keep him away from her daughter since 2012. This is heartbreaking!

The victims are my neighbors. They moved to the suburbs to get away from the crime and violence in their old neighborhood. There has been a donation site put in place for them, I'm asking you to look into your hearts and do what you can for this now broken-hearted family. Here is the site: http://www.gofundme.com/6voqbc I know I live in a loving community and, on behalf of the family, want to thank you all in advance for your kind thoughts and gestures.

Save the tax payers money just find some rope and a tree and hang him
It Get's Better February 16, 2014 at 08:06 PM
Rest in peace young lady! What a senseless crime. I hope he gets the most steepest punishment allowed. This was unnecessary and now this family has to grieve the loss of a teenage child. Senseless!!!
Bob E February 16, 2014 at 10:06 PM
hey Glock, What do you think the chances that the girl would still be alive today if this piece of crap didnt have access to a gun? If that was your kid , would you have made the same stupid comment supporting gun ownership......... unlikely. If youre redneck ass was sitting in that car when this piece of crap showed up Ill bet you wished he didnt have a gun.

Shannon, do you know of any service arrangements yet? Will you post them when you get conformation? Thanks ...
American Citizen February 17, 2014 at 12:25 AM
Hey Bob.E Im a gun owing resident does that make me a bad person FIRST OF ALL PEOPLE KILL PEOPLE. Whether its a fist , knife, gun or even a baseball bat what actually killed the person another person here's a scenario what if the mother had a c.c.w and shot this thug the story may have gone the other way and R.P.D may be saying that this was self-defense"thank u for saving the tax payers money" case . I can see you comment being directed towards a thug but please not towards a law abiding citizens The 2nd admendment gave us and still does. The right to bare arms and protect our selves. Please support the NRA and the ISRA.They are the ones helping fight for our rights .

Sad story. I'm very sorry to hear of this little girls death and hope for a full recovery for her mother.
Mayhem February 17, 2014 at 07:39 AM
As for the anti gun folks, think about all of the different scenarios there could have been. The fact that the guy had a gun doesn't change any facts. He meant to do her harm regardless. His fists, a knife, or anything else could have caused the same outcome for this child and her mother. Do you think for one minute this guy got his FOID card and purchased the gun legally? Its easy to get guns out on the streets. Cash speaks loudly. A harsh fact whether any of us like it or not. Unfortunately, law enforcement will never get a real hold on the illegal weapons situation. The issue at hand is not the gun itself, but the brazen behavior of this guy. He did this in broad daylight. He didn't care. He figured he would not get caught. He was so brazen because our Judicial system sucks!! If there was a REAL deterrent, like hard time in the Pen (smashing rocks 12 hours a day to earn their 1500 calorie a day meals, no cable t.v., no internet, no luxuries that us working Joes have to pay for..you get the picture), the death penalty (yes, an eye for an eye). Concealed carry will act as a deterrent and make these scum bags think twice about running up on someone.

All Im saying is I think the poor girl would still be alive if this scumbag did not have access to a lethal weapon, whatever that may be. Putting a gun in a criminals hands makes it extremely easy to take anothers life. So dont tell me that it wasnt the gun that killed her it was the guy. Because LOGIC tells me that the gun made it very easy and efficient to end her life.
Mayhem February 17, 2014 at 08:18 AM
I agree with what youre saying Bob, it is just the fact that when you say "putting a gun in criminals hands" makes it sound as if he went through legal channels to get it. Remember, there will always be a way to get illegal guns / weapons...always.
Susan Tackett February 17, 2014 at 08:59 AM
To every one who is blaming the mother for this tragedy...SHAME on you!! All kids lie to their parents in order to see someone their parents do not approve of, "I'm going to the mall with my friends", only to meet up with that person. We were all young once and did things I'm sure our parents did not approve of. In today's world we are faced with more challenges raising our kids then when we were growing up. 40 years ago you fought with your fists not a gun. The parents of this poor child will never be able to see their daughter grow up, graduate, get married and have children of her own. To place blame on some one who was doing her best to protect her daughter, is wrong. Remember all the things you did growing up your parents didn't approve of before blaming some you don't know. My prayers are with this family for all the hard days and years ahead of them.
Mickey February 17, 2014 at 09:41 AM
Thank you, Susan, for posting what I've been feeling. Those comments are very heartless that some are posting. This tradegy makes me so disheartened. I have a 14 year old daughter and well, let's say, she is really sad about this too and learning something from this. In a way I hope we learn the whole truth, not for sensational purposes, but learning purposes. My prayers for this entire situation, especially for the mother. Lord comfort her.
Lucy February 17, 2014 at 10:33 AM
Oh No....I am so broken up to see that she has died. I was hoping for the best even though I knew it sounded dire. She didn't deserve this. How can someone be so cold-hearted and hurt another person like this? Over what? Anger, jealousy??? So senseless. People need to learn to deal with their problems in a rational way and move on. I too have a teen daughter and can't imagine my life being turned upside down like this. I am SO sorry for her mother, no parent deserves this.
Lucy February 17, 2014 at 10:37 AM
To Glock, How much do you want to bet that if this guy had a knife this girl would still be alive? Sitting in her car, I am sure the knife would not have killed her. You can't really escape a violent bullet fired right at you. It IS the person who committed the crime but it also is what he USED to commit the crime with. Other items can kill people but guns are so much more efficient at it. THAT is the issue.
Resident February 17, 2014 at 04:07 PM
Why don't all of you concern yourself with your own family and quit sitting in judgment of others. Last time I checked the news God did not come down and appoint you judge and jury of the rest of the world. A CHILD is gone and that is what is the tragedy here. I am ashamed to say I live in the same town as all of these judgmental people. There are 2 sayings you should ALL remember...if you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything AT ALL and but for the grace of God go I. So, I hope for your sake nothing tragic happens to your family...and then have everyone blame you for it!! Ever heard of KARMA????

It has nothing to do with beeing ilegal or hispanic or living in the hood. It has to do with a real life tragedy.( For all you people think this is quiete town, wake up lot of stories going on in this town and people are afraid or just dont say anything. ) Someone lost a life because of a nutcase. The question is how did he get here, who brought him here if he was found hiding no car and came from Cicero? Im sure the mother did all she could to avoid this nut comming out here.
chris February 18, 2014 at 10:16 AM
The gun this ignorant punk used was obtained illegally. This was an individual who obtained a weapon illegally and took a life almost two. This was a senseless act of violence I pray the mother has a full recovery. May Brianna rest in piece. as far as that man who took her life we can only pray he's well received by an high aggressor with in our prison systems.
Normal Person February 18, 2014 at 07:42 PM
If Erick Maya had been turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement services after his aggravated domestic violence arrest in 2011, Briana Valle would be alive today. But instead a violent, illegal alien was turned loose on the streets to prey upon our citizens.
Silly Willy February 18, 2014 at 07:54 PM
I thought the exact same thing. USA needs to crack down on people here illegally, especially the ones committing crimes! So sad.
Shelie Jones February 18, 2014 at 10:47 PM
A young girl was shot in the head while sitting next to her mother... in their own car... in their own driveway... going to school at 7am. There is no point in "IF".... what's done cannot be undone. The only thing anyone can do now if offer support. Support to a family that struggled and relocated to protect their daughter. If you'd like to help, here's the website: www.gofundme.com/6voqbc Their burdens are heavy, no parent should have to bury a child, please help as we attempt to lighten the financial burden.
