Sex Offender's Bail Revoked

Mark Chibe, 28, was convicted of aggravated sexual abuse of a minor.

A Romeoville man is back behind bars after his bail was revoked by a Will County judge.

Mark Chibe, 28, 330 Fremont, is being held without bail as he awaits sentencing for failing to register as a convicted sex offender.

Circuit Court Judge Dan Rozak revoked Chibe’s bail Tuesday following a routine drug test, said Will County State’s Attorney’s Office spokesman Chuck Pelkie.

According to Pelkie, Chibe was arrested in August 2010, two months after he last registered his address, and pleaded guilty in February. Illinois law requires convicted sex offenders to register with local law enforcement within three days of a change of address. Chibe had previously registered as a Joliet resident, but was listed as homeless.

Pelkie would not say what prompted the decision to revoke Chibe’s bail.

“All I can say publicly is the results of the drug test were impounded and filed,” Pelkie said.

Chibe’s sentencing is scheduled for June 3. Failing to register as a sex offender is a Class 3 felony carrying a sentence of 2 to 10 years in prison.

Chibe was convicted in Cook County on charges of aggravated sexual abuse of a victim between the ages of 13 and 16. He was released from the Illinois Department of Corrections in November 2009.
