A Romeoville woman who's son died after accepting a bet that he could take punch in the face from a female party-goer has filed suit against that woman and two others.
Theresa Guy's lawsuit was filed in Will County Circuit Court against Tiffany Startz, of Joliet, who was acquitted of reckless conduct and battery charges, Jimmy Mounts and Kevin D. Renahan, according to a Sun-Times Media story.
The September 2010 party was held at Renahan's Crest Hill home, and a video of the incident shows 25-year-old John Powell, an aspiring rapper, shows him with his arms behind his back as Startz hits him on the left side of his face, the story said. Mounts was the one who started the bet, saying that he'd be willing to pay anyone $5 if they would take a punch from Startz, the story said.
Powell later collapsed, and was pronounced dead at Provena St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet.
