Police said a 22-year-old Romeoville man is in custody and will be charged with first-degree murder in the death of 17-year-old Carlos Orozco.
Fabian Almodovar was taken into police custody after being discharged from the hospital, Romeoville Assistant Police Chief Steve Lucchesi said. He said Almodovar, who suffered facial injuries and a concussion, is scheduled to be transported to the Will County jail Friday night.
Almodovar is accused of stabbing the Joliet teen in the chest during a fight in the parking lot at Jewel-Osco, 20 S. Weber Rd. Police declined to release information on what led to the fight.
"That aspect is still under investigation," Lucchesi said.
Prior arrest records list an address for Almodovar in the 1400 block of Windflower Court. Almodovar's most recent Will County arrest was April 1, when he was charged with domestic battery and battery, according to jail records. On April 2, a judge issued an emergency order of protection against Almodovar.
According to Will County court records, Almodovar pleaded guilty in April 2012 to charges including identity theft/unlawful use of a credit card and burglary.
