[UPDATED] Romeoville Man Arrested in Teen's Stabbing Death

17-year-old Carlos Orozco was pronounced dead following a fight Thursday night in Romeoville, police said.

Police said a 22-year-old Romeoville man is in custody and will be charged with first-degree murder in the death of 17-year-old Carlos Orozco.

Fabian Almodovar was taken into police custody after being discharged from the hospital, Romeoville Assistant Police Chief Steve Lucchesi said. He said Almodovar, who suffered facial injuries and a concussion, is scheduled to be transported to the Will County jail Friday night.

Almodovar is accused of stabbing the Joliet teen in the chest during a fight in the parking lot at Jewel-Osco, 20 S. Weber Rd. Police declined to release information on what led to the fight.

"That aspect is still under investigation," Lucchesi said.

Prior arrest records list an address for Almodovar in the 1400 block of Windflower Court. Almodovar's most recent Will County arrest was April 1, when he was charged with domestic battery and battery, according to jail records. On April 2, a judge issued an emergency order of protection against Almodovar.

According to Will County court records, Almodovar pleaded guilty in April 2012 to charges including identity theft/unlawful use of a credit card and burglary.

Romeoville police said a 17-year-old from Joliet died Thursday night after being stabbed during a fight in the parking lot at Jewel-Osco, 20 S. Weber Rd.

Police said the teen, Carlos Orozco, was involved in a fight with a 22-year-old Romeoville man in front of the store. Officers responded around 8:43 p.m. after receiving a report that two people were fighting and one had been stabbed, according to a press release issued Friday by Romeoville police.

Officers found the 22-year-old, who was injured, in a bathroom inside the Jewel-Osco store, according to police. He was transported to Presence St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet. He was later released and taken to Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital, police said.

The 17-year-old was found unconscious in the parking lot with an apparent stab wound to the chest, police said. Orozco was later pronounced dead at Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital.

Police said the 22-year-old allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed the 17-year-old in the chest during a fight. 

The case remains under investigation and is being reviewed by the Will County State's Attorney's Office for possible criminal charges against the 22-year-old.

An unidentified male was pronounced dead Thursday night after being transported to Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital from Jewel-Osco, 20 S. Weber Rd., according to the Will County coroner’s office.

Romeoville police are investigating the death as a homicide, according to a press release issued by Coroner Pat O’Neil’s office early Friday morning. The male was pronounced dead at 9:37 p.m. after being transported to the emergency room from the Jewel-Osco parking lot, the release said.

No additional details were available early Friday, and Romeoville police did not immediately return calls from Patch. An autopsy on the unidentified male was scheduled for Friday, according to the coroner’s office.
