Romeoville Police Arrest Man Wanted in Bolingbrook Shooting

Rolando Ibarra, 36, of Bolingbrook, faces felony charges in connection with the incident, which left an 18-year-old wounded.

An 18-year-old man was shot in the leg during an apparent fight Sunday morning in Bolingbrook, police said.

Lt. Mike Rompa said police got a report of a man with a gun at around 9:07 a.m. Sunday in the 300 block of Schmidt Road. According to Rompa, an investigation indicated that two subjects were reportedly engaged in a fight when one of them pulled a gun.

When officers arrived, the subjects had already fled the scene, with at least two vehicles heading west on Lily Cache, according to police.

Rompa said as the vehicles approached Orchard Drive, gunshots were fired from one of the vehicles.

At around 9:12 a.m., police located a black Mercury SUV near Hywood and Delware. One of the four occupants, an 18-year-old male, had a gunshot wound to his lower right leg, Rompa said.

According to police, the teen was transported to Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital with a non-life-threatening injury.

The vehicle and the three remaining occupants were detained on the scene, police said.

Minutes later, at around 9:15 a.m., a second vehicle, a black Cadillac Escalade, was stopped by Romeoville police at Arlington and Dalhart.

Rompa said one of the occupants, 36-year-old Rolando Ibarra was positively identified as the shooter. Police also recovered a .380 caliber Taurus handgun, he said.

Ibarra, of the 300 block of DuPage Drive in Bolingbrook, was taken to the Will County jail and charged with aggravated battery/use of a deadly weapon, aggravated discharge of a firearm, unlawful use of a weapon, aggravated assault and reckless discharge of a firearm, according to jail records.

He is due in court Monday afternoon.

Rompa said police have not concluded whether the shooting was gang related, but did say investigators believe it was an isolated incident.
