Romeoville Man Arrested in Connection with La Grange Home Burglaries

Police say they believe the pair broke into a several apartments and may have been planning to burglarize a house when they were called.

A man and his accomplice were arrested Thursday in connection with a series of home burglaries in La Grange, police said.

Jack Smith Jr., 46, of Romeoville, and Michael A. Bass, 50, of Calumet City, were charged with residential burglary, possession of burglary tools and two counts each of criminal trespass to a residence criminal damage to property.

La Grange police said the men were arrested after a resident in the 0- 100 block of North Beacon Avenue called 911 Tuesday to report that she encountered a man at her home whom she initially believed was a delivery person for whom she was waiting. When she realized it was not, she asked the man to leave, police said.

Police officers arrived in time to the suspects running from the scene and get into a silver vehicle was eventually stopped by Lyons police 47th Street and First Avenue.

According to La Grange Police Chief Michael Holub, bond has been set at $250,000 for Smith and $350,000 for Bass.
