Romeoville Man Accused of Threatening Cop, Violating Bond

James Dehoyos was charged with domestic battery after October 2010 arrest.

A Romeoville man was jailed last week after violating the conditions of his bond, Romeoville police said.

James Manuel Dehoyos, 32, was taken into custody following a May 12 court appearance after authorities learned he had returned to the home he had previously shared with his girlfriend and children.

Dehoyos was prohibited from being at the home in the 300 block of Hale Avenue or contacting his girlfriend after bonding out on charges of domestic battery last October. He also is accused of threatening to shoot the arresting officer and kicking out the back passenger side window of a Romeoville police squad car.

Assistant Police Chief Steve Lucchesi said Dehoyos was first arrested on Halloween 2010 after one of his children made a 911 call.

According to police, Dehoyos fled the scene after striking his girlfriend in the face and head several times. A Romeoville officer found Dehoyos in a nearby back yard.

“He charged at the officer and ran away after the officer deployed a Taser,” Lucchesi said.

The officer was able to apprehend the fleeing Dehoyos, according to police. As he was being transported to the Will County Adult Detention Facility for booking, Dehoyos threatened to shoot the officer with an AK-47, Lucchesi said, and kicked out the back passenger side window of the police car.

He is charged with threatening a public official, criminal damage to state property and domestic battery.

During a May 12 court appearance, authorities learned that Dehoyos returned to the Hale Avenue home in March, Lucchesi said.

Dehoyos is once again free after posting bond. His next court date is set for June 23.
