Police: Man Used Stolen Car to Ram Pursuer’s Vehicle

Salvador Nassar of Romeoville charged with aggravated battery, possession of stolen SUV.

A Romeoville man faces charges after allegedly stealing an SUV, then using it to ram a car driven by relatives trying to reclaim the stolen vehicle.

Salvador A. Nassar, 18, 32 Arlington, Romeoville, is charged with possessing a stolen vehicle and aggravated battery after allegedly stealing the car from a driveway in the 700 block of Honeytree, Romeoville Police said.

Assistant Chief Steven Lucchesi said police received a report that a 2009 Nissan Murano was stolen after being left running the driveway of the home at around 4:45 p.m. Friday.

“The owner of the vehicle came out and the vehicle was gone,” Lucchesi said.

Relatives of the owner pursued the stolen vehicle after getting a tip that it was seen near Lukancic Middle School on Normantown Road, according to Lucchesi.

“One of the relatives thought they knew who one of the occupants was,” he said, adding the car contained a driver and three passengers.

But when the family member attempted to block the stolen SUV, police said, Nassar rammed his pursuer’s car with the vehicle before driving away.

Lucchesi said police located the Murano in the parking lot of the LG Electronics warehouse in Bolingbrook on Saturday morning. He said officers viewed a surveillance video and were able to see three of the four occupants of the stolen SUV attempting to hide in the LG lobby.

Officers located and arrested Nassar on Saturday. The Will County State’s Attorney’s Office is reviewing possible charges against the other three occupants of the car, who are all juveniles, Lucchesi said.
