Officers Conduct Emergency Training at Local Schools

Romeoville cops were at A. Vito Martinez Middle School Thursday and Friday.

If you drove by on Thursday, you might have wondered, “Why are all those cop cars at AVM?”

Don’t worry. It wasn’t a real-life emergency that drew officers to the Romeoville middle school this week.

Assistant Chief Steven Lucchesi said officers spent two days participating in rapid response training at the school, preparing for the unthinkable — including an active shooter scenario.

“It could be a school, it could be a business, it could be any number of locations,” Lucchesi said. And local cops want to be ready.

“It’s kind of a refresher training, in case we get an incident,” Lucchesi said.
