A Bolingbrook man was arrested last week after racking up thousands in debt in his brother’s name, Romeoville police said.
Cletus Tawiah, 41, of 505 Preston, was arrested Thursday and charged with financial identity theft, theft and unlawful use of a credit card after an investigation revealed that he had opened several lines of credit using his brother’s identity, according to Assistant Chief Steven Lucchesi.
“He was using his brother’s identification and opened up various accounts,” Lucchesi said, including an account with a balance of more than $3,000.
“Apparently, he’s been doing this for a couple years,” Lucchesi said.
Tawiah is being held at the Will County Adult Detention Facility and is scheduled to appear in court Friday. His bail is set at $750.
