According to police, at around 5:15 a.m., Hayes was driving a 2005 Dodge minivan south on Weber Road when he allegedly disobeyed the stop light and struck the Mistubishi SUV driven by Trasmonte, who was making a left turn onto Weber from Taylor Road.
Trasmonte was taken to Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His wife, who was in the passenger seat, was hospitalized following the crash.
Hayes is being held at the Will County jail on $750,000 bond and is due to appear in court on Monday. He is charged with 12 counts of aggravated DUI.
Two fundraisers — an online GoFundMe account and a June 13 benefit at Fat Ricky's pizza in Romeoville — have been organized to help Trasmonte's wife and sons, ages 7 and 15. Click here to find out how to help.
