Illinois State Police said a Romeoville man faces felony DUI charges in connection with an early morning crash that killed his son and injured his two other children on southbound I-55 south of I-355 in Bolingbrook.

Police initially held Shannard M.L. Dyer, 29, on charges of DUI and driving too fast for conditions after his 2012 Dodge Journey struck a concrete median wall, then rolled over, ejecting all three children from the back seat, according to police. The accident happened at around 2 a.m.

Four-year-old Taylor Dyer was pronounced dead on the scene of the crash at 3:40 a.m., according to the Will County Coroner.

The other two children, reported to be ages 2 and 7, were transported first to Advocate Good Samaritan and then taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge in critical condition.

Shannard Dyer was also taken to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital, where he was listed in good condition on Sunday.

On Monday afternoon, Shannard Dyer was charged in Will County with six counts of aggravated DUI — two counts for each child involved in the crash

Dyer was taken into custody after being released from the hospital, state police said. He was taken to the Will County jail. Dyer's bond was set at $750,000.

Hard to wrap your mind around such irresponsibility. Was there another adult around when these kids were put into that car? If so, they also should be charged. Those poor kids deserve/ deserved better. Hopefully there is a responsible adult in that family to care for those children.

I have asked this before with no response: Where was the mother? And the headline above from the Patch states he faces felonies from this accident. This was not an accident!

Why was he driving drunk at 2 a.m.? Was no one aware that he was too intoxicated to drive with 3 babies in the car? Didn't anyone care about those poor children to make them the responsibility of a drunken POS? Friends don't let friends drive drunk...at least responsible friends? Anyway you look at it, this was murder. He should never see the light of day again and throw his sorry bu tt in prison for the rest of his miserable life. That little 4 yr old had the rest of his life to look forward to and because of the carelessness of this jerk, he's gone. What kind of mother would allow her children out at that time with a drunken fool? Can you tell that I have not ONE IOTA of sympathy for this guy who killed one child and injured the other ones. I hope DCFS immediately stepped in and removed them from the irresponsible home they came from. No excuse, no way should he ever be forgiven.

The punk looks awfully smug in his mug shot considering he killed one of his children and critically injured the others. One can only hope he gets all he deserves in lockup. Stupid Illinois... where is the death penalty when you need it?
