Joliet Man Found Dead in Lewis University Dorm Killed By Alcohol Intoxication
The dead man's blood alcohol content was more than five times the legal limit for driving.
The Joliet man found dead in a Lewis University dormitory last month was killed by alcohol intoxication, according to the Will County Coroner's Office.
Elvis Dominguez-Mejia, 22, had a blood alcohol concentration of .437, the coroner's office said. The legal limit to drive an automobile is .08 percent.
The cops were called to Lewis's Fitzpatrick Hall shortly after 10:30 a.m. on Jan. 16 to investigate "an unconscious male subject in a dormitory room," Romeoville Deputy Police Chief Steve Lucchesi said at the time. Dominguez-Mejia was reportedly already dead when the police got there.
As early as the day of Dominguez-Mejia's death, the police suspected drinking killed him.
Lucchesi said at the time "the death may have been caused by excessive alcohol consumption," and added, "At this time, no foul play is suspected and the case is under investigation."
Toxicology testing turned up no evidence of drugs in Dominguez-Mejia's system. Coroner Patrick O'Neil ruled the death was an accident.
