Homes Evacuated After Gas Leak

Police: Storm-related incident temporarily displaced homeowners.

Saturday night’s storms caused participants at the village's first Relay For Life to seek shelter during the outdoor event, and they also created a bit of chaos for one Romeoville neighborhood.

Assistant Police Chief Steve Lucchesi said officers were called out to assist Romeoville firefighters with a tree on fire on Abbeywood Drive late Saturday, adding a lightning strike likely caused the blaze.

A natural gas leak in the area also prompted officials to evacuate eight to 10 homes on Abbeywood shortly after midnight, Lucchesi said.
