In the event of a fire emergency after the recent heavy snow storm, could firefighters find the fire hydrant near your home or business? Or is it buried under a snow pile?
The is encouraging residents to "adopt a fire hydrant" near their home or business and keep snow shoveled at least three feet away from it during the winter season to ensure hydrants are visible. That will help speed up the response time in case of an emergency, according to officials.
If you do decide to "adopt" a hydrant, there's no need to notify the fire district, since this is an informal volunteer program. For more information contact the Lockport Township Fire District at 815-838-3287.
The is also urging residents to make sure fire hydrants are clear, and that addresses are illuminated and viclbe at night.
