Jaroslaw Mietus, 28, was arrested after being treated for minor injuries at Morris Hospital.

Updated at 3 p.m. Jan. 23:

A Hickory Hills man is charged with aggravated DUI after a crash that killed his passenger on westbound I-80 near Ridge Road, according to Illinois State Police.

Jaroslaw W. Mietus, 28, was driving a Ford F-150 pick-up truck west on I-80 when it struck the back of a semi-trailer that was parked on the shoulder near the Three Rivers Rest Area, police said.

The pick-up truck then bounced back into the roadway, hitting a Lexus RX 330 near mile marker 118, according to police.

A passenger in Mietus' truck was pronounced dead on arrival at Morris Hospital, police said. The driver of both pick-up vehicles and the semi were also transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

After being treated and released, Mietus was arrested and taken to the Grundy County jail, police said.

Immediately following the crash, all westbound lanes were closed at Ridge Road, and traffic was diverted to Route 6 to the south and Route 52 to the north, according to Illinois State Police.

The identity of the person who was killed has not yet been released.
