Driver Cited After Child Struck By Car: Police

An 11-year-old girl suffered minor injuries when she was struck by a car Monday morning outside the Speedway gas station at 1300 Normantown Road in Romeoville.

Cmdr. Ken Kroll said at about 8 a.m., the girl was walking out of the convenience store and heading toward the gas pumps when she was struck by a vehicle traveling at a "very slow speed."

The girl was taken to a local hospital, where she was treated for her injuries and released. Kroll said she later came to the police station to give a statement.

The male driver of the vehicle was citied for failure to yield to a pedestrian, Kroll said. He said surveillance video of the accident confirmed that the driver was traveling at a slow rate of speed.
