Dangerous Conditions on I-55: State Police

Illinois State Police are advising drivers in Will, Grundy and Kendall counties to stay put, as blowing and drifting snow creates hazardous conditions and, in some areas, zero visibilities, on local roads.

Affected areas include I-55 south of I-80, Route 47, Route 17 and all secondary roadways bordered by open areas where blowing and drifting snow are normally a problem, according to police.

"Motorists are advised to refrain from unnecessary travel, and all drivers should use caution while traveling today," as well as Monday, police said. "Due to the excessively low temperatures and heavy winds, causing snow drifts across the roadways, several vehicles are losing control and crashes are occurring."
