"I was able to confirm that at least one of the [family's] pets did perish," Michalec said via email. "I don’t have much more detail as how, what it was or how many."

Michalec said an occupant in an apartment located above Sebert Landscaping’s business office reported the fire at 5:33 p.m.

Firefighters who arrived on the scene found extensive fire concentrated to the rear of the building and the roof. Fire crews conducting a search of the building were able to confirm that all the occupants had made it out, and there were no injuries, according to the release.

“Due to the very heavy fire present a defensive approach was taken on the building, and it took about 90 minutes to extinguish the fire, which resulted in a total loss of the building,” Michalec said, adding 65 firefighters from more than a dozen departments responded to the blaze.

Michalec said the fire remains under investigation.
