Call from Family Member Leads to Drug Bust of 19-Year-Old Romeoville Man: Police

Romeoville Deputy Police Chief Steve Lucchesi said the fear of drugs taking one family member's life often spurs another into action.

A family member called police, and a short time later a 19-year-old Romeoville man was arrested on a felony charge of possession of heroin, Romeoville Deputy Police Chief Steve Lucchesi said.

Andrew J. Arriola, 19, of 606 Superior Drive, Romeoville, was taken into custody after police discovered he was the passenger in a car parked on McKool Avenue early Wednesday night, Lucchesi said.

"We received a call at about 5 p.m. from someone at his residence—a family member who found what he thought was heroin," Lucchesi said. "We took custody of drug. We located him later in the evening and arrested him."

Arriola was charged with possession of heroin—just under 1 gram—a felony, Lucchesi said.

"It isn't that unusual for a family member to turn another in," Lucchesi said. "Sometimes one family member sees another family member getting deep into trouble and they worry about drugs taking the life of that family member.

"They feel it's better if he's arrested and the court orders supervision."

Following his arrest, Arriola was transported to the Will County Adult Detention Facility. He was awaiting a bond hearing on Thursday.
