Bolingbrook Police Recover Loaded Gun During Traffic Stop

Four juveniles released after Bolingbrook incident.

A Joliet teen faces drug and weapons charges stemming from an early Sunday incident in Bolingbrook.

Lt. Mike Rompa said said police conducted a traffic stop on a 2001 green Ford Focus at around 1:29 a.m. at Boughton and Whitewater for a moving violation.

According to police, the officer detected the odor of cannabis coming from the vehicle. During an investigation, police recovered a loaded .25 caliber handgun and cannabis inside the vehicle, Rompa said.

The five occupants of the vehicle were taken into custody. Four juveniles were released pending court petitions, according to police.

Kenndy Paterson, 18, of the 200 block of Mississippi Avenue in Joliet, was arrested and charged with unlawful use of a weapon, possession of a firearm without a valid FOID, possession of cannabis, illegal possession of ammunition without a FOID and improper traffic lane use, according to jail records.

Paterson was due in Will County court on Monday afternoon.
