2 of 3 Armed Robbers who Led Police Chase to Bolingbrook Charged: Police

Two of the three men who allegedly robbed an AT&T store at gunpoint and then led a high-speed chase to Bolingbrook appeared in court Sunday, according to police.

Two of three men who allegedly robbed an AT&T store in Hodgkins Thursday and then led a high-speed chase to Bolingbrook appeared in court Sunday, according to police.

Lavell L. Fort, 20, and Stephen Jakes, 26, both of Chicago, have been charged with attempted armed robbery and aggravated kidnapping. Fort, who was allegedly the getaway driver, was also charged with aggravated fleeing and eluding. 

Both men are being held in Cook County jail in lieu of $500,000 bond.

Jakes and an unidentified man allegedly entered an AT&T store in Hodgkins around 7 p.m. Thursday, according to the Chicago Tribune. Jakes "put a gun in the store manager’s face and corralled five customers and two employees into the back," according to the Trib. 

When one customer fled out the back of the store, Jakes and the man fled on foot and jumped into an Oldsmobile Alero. Fort then allegedly led a police chase on I-55 to Weber and Boughton Roads in Bolingbrook, where the car crashed into two others. During the chase, the Alero reached speeds of 100 mph and ran two red lights.

Fort and Jakes fled on foot and were apprehended by police. No information was provided on the whereabouts of the third subject.  

Jakes was previously on parole and has five felony convictions, according to the Tribune
