109 Pounds of Pot Seized in Search of Romeoville Man's Home: Police

37-year-old Miguel Garcia is facing two felony drug charges after Romeoville police assist the DEA in a search of his Key Largo Drive residence and take him into custody.

A 37-year-old Romeoville man is facing felony drug charges after he was taken into custody by Romeoville police following a search of his home late Friday afteroon, according to Commander Allen Downen.

Miguel M. Garcia, 37, of 1025 Key Largo Drive, Romeoville, was charged with felony counts of delivery of cannabis and possession of cannabis and a misdemeanor count of  possession of drug paraphernalia after police seized a little more than 109 pounds of cannabis from his home, Downen said.

"No, you don't see that a whole lot," Downen said. "We did have a pretty large cannabis arrest early this year or late last year—I don't remember the exact timing—that was comparable to this in size. But outside of that, it's rare. We don't see much of this size or nature.

"We have seen grow houses—where people grow these plants in their basements. And we have shut down a few of those type operations."

Downen described Garcia's home as a "stash house" — a term he said the Federal Drug Enforcement Agency uses to describe places where cannabis and/or other drugs are stored before they are delivered by suppliers.

Following his arrest, Downen said Garcia was transported to the Will County Adult Detention Facility. His bond was set at $1 million during a preliminary court hearing.

Downen said Romeoville police officers were called to assist the DEA on the search of Garcia's home and in his subsequent arrest. At the time of the incident, Downen said officers recovered drug paraphernalia, including a scale, and seized a computer from Garcia's residence on Key Largo Drive.
