Landfill Electronics Ban Takes Effect Jan. 1

Here's where you can safely (and legally) dispose of your unwanted electronic items.

Starting Jan. 1, 2012, electronics, including TVs, computers and more, will be banned from Illinois landfills.

But area residents still have plenty of options when it comes to disposing of electronics.

Romeoville residents can drop off broken, outdated or unwanted electronics from 6 to 8 p.m. every Wednesday and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. the first Saturday of each month at the village’s electronics recycling center, 195 S. Budler Road (next to the ).

Will County residents can also use a free curbside electronics pick-up service by calling 886-631-1707. Click here for an online pick-up request form.

This spring, the village will host a Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Spartans’ Square parking lot, one block south of Normantown Road and Route 53.

Romeoville residents can also take advantage of a regional household hazardous waste management program. Items can be dropped off at Naperville Fire Station #4, 1971 Brookdale Road, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays (excluding holidays.

  • Digital Converter Boxes
  • Cable Receivers
  • Satellite Receivers
  • Digital Video Disc Recorders
