Troop Support: Romeoville Students Donate to Operation Care Package Effort

Best Buy chips in to help students in ongoing project at Romeoville's Beverly Skoff Elementary School.

The following article was submitted by Valley View School District 365U:

Students at Beverly Skoff Elementary School in Romeoville Tuesday donated several boxes of non-perishable food to Joliet-based Operation Care Package, an all-volunteer not-for-profit organization dedicated to supporting  members of the U.S. military who are serving overseas through care packages and letters of encouragement.

Included in the items collected from the Skoff drive were dozens of items donated by the Best Buy Service Center at 2601 Internationale Parkway, just east of Rt. 53, in Woodridge.

“The items that you have collected will go into boxes. Each week we ship these boxes to 150 men and women,” Operation Care Package’s Cindy Eaton told students. “We send them socks. We send them batteries. Each box includes a can of vegetables or fruit and something like ravioli or spaghetti-o’s. Some of them don’t have kitchens. Some of them don’t have microwaves. Some of them don’t have anything other than our boxes and the dry package the military gives them and they just add water to.”
