RHS ‘Couch of Hope’ Raises Funds for Haitian Orphans

Valentine’s Day will have a special meaning to students who belong to several clubs at Romeoville High School.

That’s when the “Couch of Hope” comes to RHS as a followup to a fundraising drive for The Global Orphan Project that runs from Feb. 1 to Feb. 10.

Launched by John and Christina Randall of Bolingbrook after John returned from a mission to Haiti, Couch of Hope’s simple concept raises funds for homeless and starving children in Haiti.

In some cases, the Randalls bring their couch to a fundraising site and charge a minimum donation of $2 to have a donor’s photo taken on the couch. The photo is then posted to a website. In other cases, fundraising takes place first with photos of donors on the couch coming later.

In Romeoville High School’s case, Student Leadership Club, National Honor Society, the Latino Academic and Social Organization and Key Club will begin their fundraising efforts on Feb. 1. The Couch of Hope will be at school on Feb. 14 to take photos of anyone who raised at least $20 toward the $1,500 goal.

The Couch of Hope also made an appearance at RHS on Jan. 28 at the 60-team Snowflake Shake TeamDance Illinois dance competition. Competing high school teams were encouraged to have their photos taken free of charge, while individuals who made donations also had photos taken.

All photos will be available for viewing and downloading (free of charge) at http://rhscouchofhope.shutterfly.com.

Anyone interested in donating is urged to contact a student in one of the participating RHS clubs or Kristen Miller at MillerKM@vvsd.org.
