Senator Bertino-Tarrant to host senior workshop

PLAINFIELD— Senator Jennifer Bertino-Tarrant (D-Shorewood) and Representative Natalie Manley will be partnering with Plainfield Township, the Attorney General and AT&T this month to host a Senior workshop from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Monday, November 18, 2013 at the Plainfield Township Community Room (22525 W. Lockport St, Plainfield, IL).

AT&T will be presenting ‘Keeping Seniors Connected to Family and Friends,’ which provides information to the senior community on how they can best use wireless devices and new technology to improve their lives.

“Using technology to keep seniors close to the ones they love is vital to their overall happiness,” Senator Bertino-Tarrant said.  “Giving them new ways to stay united to family and friends, as well as keep themselves safe, can greatly improve their quality of life.”

The workshop will also provide an opportunity for seniors to learn about ways to protect themselves from financial scams and health care fraud with the Attorney General’s Silver Beats program.

"Just the other day, the Village of Romeoville alerted residents of potential scams relating to the disconnection of utility services by providing them information on where to report these scams," said Manley. "I encourage older residents to attend this workshop to equip
themselves with the knowledge necessary to detect, prevent, and properly report possible scams that may be targeted towards older adults."

The event is free and open to the public.  Space is limited however, so please RSVP Senator Bertino-Tarrant’s district office by calling 815-254-4211 or e-mail bertinotarrant49@att.net.
